Elmwood Little League

Thanks for a great 2021 Spring Season!

As we head toward fall, we've got a few things going on right now:

Dominican Day Parade - August 8

Elmwood Little League has been invited to walk in the Dominican Day Parade next Sunday, August 8th! The march starts at the CVS on the corner of Thurbers Ave and Broad St. at 10am. The march travels up Broad St. toward the Roger Williams Park entrance and should take about 2 hours ending at noon. We want as many Elmwood Baseball and Softball players as possible to join us in their uniform to march together as a league to celebrate this fun community event. Please meet us in the parking lot behind the CVS, in front of Brother's Famous Pizza, at 9am so we can take photos together and get organized for the march.

If you are planning on attending, please let us know here.

What to expect from Elmwood Little League

When is this season going to start and end?

The current plan is for minor, major, and senior baseball and softball to have tryouts April 24 and May 1, with games beginning the week of May 10 and likely running into July. Tee-ball and instructional will begin with coach meet and greet on May 8.

What COVID-19 precautions are in place?

In accordance with state and federal guidelines, players and coaches will continue to wear masks throughout the spring season while in the dugout, and while batting and catching.

The Rhode Island Department of Health states, "If you're not fully vaccinated, wear a mask indoors and within three feet of others outdoors."

Players and coaches in the dugout will often be within three feet of each other in a semi-enclosed space, for an extended period of time, hopefully while loudly cheering and celebrating each other's play.

No Elmwood Little League players under the age of 12 -- all players in tee-ball, instructional, and minors, and almost all in major divisions -- will be vaccinated during this season, as no vaccine has been authorized for use on those children.

Players ages 12 - 15 may have begun the five week process of full vaccination with the Pfizer vaccine and development of immune response as early as May 11. No player under the age of 16 has the possibility of completing the vaccination process before the final week of the season in late June.

While some 16 year old players at the senior league level may be fully vaccinated now or during the season, for the sake of keeping clear, consistent across the league and within team dugouts, Elmwood Little League is requiring vaccinated players to wear masks while in the dugout throughout the spring season, while batting or catching, or in any other situation where people will be within 3 feet of each other for a period of time.

As an example and reminder to players, the league also requires coaches and other adults to wear masks while in the dugout or when within three feet of other individuals.

These rules are for the safety of our community, and we join you in looking forward to a future of fully mask free play.

How often do teams play and practice?

It depends on the player age and division. For tee-ball and instructional divisions, one practice during the week and a game Saturday morning. For older divisions, usually two or three days a week, divided between practices and games. Occasionally teams may have more games during a week to make up rainouts or work around scheduling problems.

Where are games and at what time?

Tee-ball and instructional games are at J.T. Owens Field off Niantic Avenue in Providence on Saturday morning.

Most baseball and softball games for older divisions are in the evening at J.T. Owens field. Senior baseball plays at Ardoene Field off Narragansett Avenue. The major division baseball field and the softball field have lights for when games extend into the late evening. Most divisions for older players have some road games against nearby teams from outside Elmwood Little League.

Do you need coaches?

We can always use coaches across the age divisions, from more experienced head coaches to bench parents who help in the dugout during games. Meet us at registration or in touch using the contact info below.

All volunteers are screened by an annual background check as required by Little League International.
